Everything You Need to Know

Our beliefs shape, influence and define the things that are important to us. Our beliefs are rooted and based in Scripture. Our beliefs do not change, but our methods of communicating them and inspiring people to live by them may change as needed.
At the core of our beliefs and values we must always live by these great words from history:
In matters of faith we have unity - Ephesians 4:4-6, Romans 15:5
In matters of opinion we have liberty - Romans 14:1, 4, 12, 22
In all matters love - 1 John 4:7, I Corinthians 13:2 & 13.
As we strive for unity in issues of faith, liberty when it comes to opinion, and love in all matters, God will be lifted up and His church will prevail!
We can sum up our core beliefs this way:
God - We believe there is one God; who is creator of all things, unchanging, perfect in holiness, wisdom and love. He exists forever as three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Acts 17:24-30, Hebrews 11:3, James 1:17).
Jesus Christ - We believe in Jesus Christ God's one and only son. We believe he was born of a virgin, both fully human and fully divine. We believe he lived a sinless life suffering and dying on a Roman cross. He was the perfect sacrifice for our sin-filled lives. We believe He rose bodily from the dead on the third day and will return to earth one day to judge both the living and the dead (1 John 4:9, Luke 1:26-38, Luke 23:1-46, 1 Corinthians 15:1-8, Acts 10:39-42).
Holy Spirit - We believe in the Holy Spirit, who is active in both the world and Christians today. We believe he convicts the world of sin and their need for forgiveness in Christ. We believe He comes to live in those who accept Jesus as their Savior. He guides, instructs, and empowers the Christ follower in spiritual growth, daily living, and service to Jesus Christ (John 16:5-15, Acts 2:38, Romans 8:26-27).
Bible - We believe the Bible, both Old and New Testament to be the inspired word of God, and without error. The scriptures are the final authority for all matters of Christian faith and practice (1 Corinthians 2:12-13, 2 Timothy 3:14-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21).
Humanity - We believe all people were created uniquely by God in His image in order to have a relationship with Him. We believe man and woman have separated themselves from their relationship with God by sinning against Him. They are able to renew this relationship through accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior (Genesis 1:27, Acts 4:12, Romans 3:23 and 6:23).
Salvation - We believe that salvation - the forgiveness of sins and eternal life - can belong to all who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. This is a free gift of grace through Christ shed blood given when one is ready to repent of sin, confess their faith, and be baptized (by immersion) into Him (John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 3:26-28, Romans 6:1-7, Colossians 2:6, Acts 2:38).
Church - We believe there is only one church, founded on the day of Pentecost and consist of all people who have accepted Jesus Christ as their Savior. We believe scripture teaches Christ followers to gather together for worship, prayer, teaching of God's word, to build up one another through our gifts, outreach, communion, and baptism. We believe Jesus Christ is the Lord and head of the church and that each local church has the right under Christ to decide and govern it's own affairs (Acts 2:14-47, 1 Peter 5:1-4, 1 Corinthians 12:12-31, Matthew 28:18-20).

At First Christian, we believe this is the most important question you will answer in your lifetime. Our relationship with Jesus is far more important than any relationship here on earth. If you have a desire to understand this relationship, we would love to talk with you about that decision and you may call or email us. If you are ready to make that decision and wonder what the next step is, the list below will help you understand. When you are ready to confess your faith and be baptized this can be done at anytime and does not have to be done only at church after a morning service.
Believe in Christ as your Lord and Savior - Ephesians 2:8-9.
Confess your faith - Romans 10:9.
Repent of your sins - Acts 3:19.
Be baptized by immersion - Acts 2:38.

How do I become a member if I am already a follower of Christ?
Maybe you have a relationship with Jesus and are considering becoming a member at First Christian. We would love to help you along with this decision. If you have received your relationship with Christ as listed above in "The First Step", then your next step would be to come forward at the end of a service and place your membership. You may also talk to an Elder or Staff member. We can recognize your decision at the next service time.
Why should I join First Christian?
Membership is a demonstration of your commitment to the ministries and body here First Christian. Becoming a member empowers and allows you to serve in more ways at First Christian.
Membership is an important first step to greater involvement in the powerful work God is doing here. Your relationship with Christ is of utmost importance to us.
